Keyon McCray, professionally known as On-Key, was born in 1983 in Middletown, Ohio to Annette McCray. Shortly after his birth, his mother decided that she wanted her family to have a fresh start so she moved On-key and his three sisters out to San Diego, California in 1984. By the age of six, On-Key discovered his love for music by singing in the Sunshine Band in a small church called True Light Church of God in Christ. While being exposed to gospel music by frequently being involved in the church choir, he also developed a love for R&B music and a passion for playing piano which he pursued throughout high school. He was asked to join a band by the name of Definition in 1999 as their keyboardist and vocalist. After performing in many local competitions and weddings, they went on to be introduced to rapper and record producer Nick Cannon for a possible record deal but the plan for that never came to fruition and the group disbanded in 2006.

Late 2006, On-Key set out to do his first studio recording entitled “The Alpha R&B Mixtape” which was street released in 2007. With the passion and desire he had he decided to create an entertainment company titled Kademe Entertainment, a name that was created collectively with two of his closest friends. During the year, he found himself creating not one but two solo projects by the names of “Quiet Sessions EP”, which was released via digital download in (August 2010 courtesy of (Soultrie Music Group), and “Soul Music Slave” released in (October 2011) courtesy of “Lifted Muzik Recordings” Followed by A New Situation Ep Part 1 (Sept 2014) & S.M.K COLLAB ALBUM With Neo/Soul Artist (Curt Quinn) (Dec.2016) and A New Situation Ep Part 1.5 Being his latest Release on (Jan. 2020) On-Key Has open for big acts such as Omarion from the group B2K, Slim from R&B group 112, Latoya Luckett formerly from the group Destiny’s Child & Lalah Hathaway.

With On-Key’s soulful sound, he wants to touch the world with his music and inspire other artist the same way some of his influences such as Tank, Dave Hollister, Calvin Richardson, Boyz to Men, and Brian McKnight, greatly inspire him. With the strong determined state of mind that On-Key has, his future is becoming more promising as he looks forward to whatever positive musical endeavors that may come his way.

IndieNation Review!
On-Key is back with a new album titled, “I’m Searching.” First off, the self titled introduction sets the tone of the whole album while also setting the bar extremely high for everything else to come. This interlude could in it’s own be an impactful single on an album. On-Key really teases his vocal capability as well as his songwriting skill. After listening to this I was excited to see what else was to come.

After listening to track number 2 “Set The Mood” I realized that this is the type of album that you just press play and let it ride. The vibe is just right. Halfway through this song is where I decided to just restart the album from the beginning. I needed to let this marinate a bit.

As I continued to listen to the album I kept ranking it higher and higher. For me, this was a much needed album. It was well put together. Filled with passionate lyrics and real life situations that allow people to emotionally connect to them. I was really impressed. This is the kind of album I would suggest to all of my R&B lovers, it truly gives you the feel of the golden age of R&B.
